Hypoxia was the last material I recorded under K Hein before starting Equip in 2015. I'd get home exhausted from working 10 hour shifts (with 45 min commutes each way) and try to record something... anything.. with the remaining energy I had. Half awake, half asleep, guitar in hand, I'd record loops and layer them until I dozed off. More often than not, I'd wake up and find some interesting recordings that I didn't remember making. I sat on these files for a long time and debated on adding/removing things, but ended up moving on to more immediate material. After the second Equip album, "Synthetic Core 88," I was asked by my friend Jack Duros if I'd contribute an album to his bird charity label, Avian Life. I thought about these recordings and finally decided to master them. The first 5 tracks make up the original Hypoxia. I decided not to re-master them as I was quite happy with how they sounded... and I lost the original files :) I found a lot of other interesting tidbits when I was digging for material for "Gauze 3" and "Zonescaping Expanded." Some of the extra tracks were recorded around those times, but didn't feel appropriate with those collections. Here they are, for better or worse! There are some joyous moments as well as somber ones. I'm happy to say this concludes my K Hein reissue campaign and almost everything i've ever recorded under my name is available to listen now.
Hypoxia dedicated to my friend Anna Francik who passed unexpectedly and mysteriously in her sleep on August 12, 2014 at age 24. May she rest in peace.
