"A LIFETIME OF PINK BULLETS BURSTING THROUGH YOUR EAR CANALS"

The second Bullet Heaven mix is yet another tribute to the beauty, passion, pleasure, and pain of danmaku shooting video games. Affectionately shortened from "shoot-em-ups" to "shmups" by purveyors of the genre, these games involve piloting a ship or character through a vertically or horizontally scrolling playing field, facing hordes of increasingly difficult enemies and dodging waves upon waves of bullets. This style of gameplay has mutated into what is now known as the "bullet hell," or "danmaku," which translates to barrage.
Great danmamku shmups often induce a trance-like "flow state" within the player, where outside stimuli are ignored as your appendages become one with the joystick. This is always aided by an often killer soundtrack.
It is my opinion that danmaku shmups are a form of high art in their execution of audiovisual stimuli and player immersion. For this second installment of Bullet Heaven, I kept the tempo between 130 and 150 BPM to keep the intensity high and hopefully deliver a flow-state of pure euphoria to the listener. I hope you enjoy my sincere love letter to the art of dodging pink bullets. <3
