"PLACES YOU'VE BEEN" is a new "sound image" series inspired by the ambience of liminal spaces. This first release, "The Abandoned Inn at Ikoma" is inspired by a an abandoned 3 story inn in the small village of Mount Ikoma. During my visit in 2017 with a group of friends, we splintered off and did our own exploring. There was a certain familiarity and nostalgia as I perused the halls of this once-populated but now vacant space. Personal ephemera, photographs, passports, keys, video tapes- all left abandoned. Walking into each room, I imagined what it was like in its prime- bustling, full of visitors, people soaking in the baths, singing karakoke on the stage in the big room. An uneasy mix of forlorn loneliness and warm comfort made for an unforgettable experience. I had the pleasure of returning again during my 2019 visit. The inn seemed mostly the same, though the air quality had degraded significantly and we couldn't stay as long. Though I'd done a thorough search two years prior, I managed to find new areas of the inn I hadn't seen the last time. Did these rooms always exist?
